Following hot on the heals from Resonance FM's airing of the Best of Dear Puppeteer radio show, we continue to pay tribute to the artist Ferris Blood. Ferris died last year from cancer at a tragically young age and this weekend witnesses a number of events that all aim to pay tribute to his life and talent. Ferris was the co-creator with Llyr Williams of Depressing Comics and also the brains behind the Dear Puppeteer radio show spin-off that was first aired on Resonance FM back in 2010. Today on Hello GoodBye we feature live music from; bib, The Bronsteins & Mathew Sawyer. Co-founder Llyr Williams will also be joining us to read from and discuss, the recently published hard back compendium of Depressing Comics. http://www.depressingcomics.com/ Intellectual boy-band bib have re-formed especially for this event and join us in the studio with their wry, observational electro-pop. http://www.myspace.com/bibspace Melinda Bronstein (The Bronsteins) performs bitter / sweet infectious pop. http://www.myspace.com/thebronsteins Mathew Sawyer and The Ghosts explore the outer reaches of unrequited love in a timeless, classic pop form. They are signed to Fire Records and have two albums available: 'Blue Birds Blood' (2007) originally released on Stolen Recordings and Catbird Records (US) and 'How Snakes Eat' (2010). http://www.mathewsawyer.co.uk/ All 3 of these acts are set to perform at the Ferris Blood tribute gig taking place at The 12 Bar Club (Denmark St., London) tomorrow evening, Sunday 14th October. http://www.facebook.com/events/200439560087694/ http://hellogoodbyeshow.com

Cafe Calcio (repeat)

Tonight Café Calcio returns from the wilderness to bring you another series of discussion about influence and importance of the planet’s favourite sport, football. To begin the latest run, we’ve brought back an old favourite Anthony Clavane. His last book, Promised Land, The Reinvention of Leeds United featured in one of our early editions some two years ago. Since that time, Promised Land has gone on to win both Football, and Sports Book Of The Year awards, therefore we thought it only fitting to bring him back in to the Resonance FM studios to take us through his latest offering, before it goes platinum, so that we can say we were there first, again. Does Your Rabbi Know You’re Here: The Story Of English Football’s Forgotten Tribe portrays a community’s process of assimilation through football, on the pitch, at backroom and board level and in the stands themselves. Often unnoticed and unsung, this book highlights the input of England’s Jewish community on the development of the modern game, and paints a picture of the schism created when on the one hand there is a need to blend in and integrate, and on the other, a need to stay loyal to culture and heritage. We’re all about displaying football as positive force for social change and cohesion here at Café Calcio, so this show should prove to be a fine example of exactly what we’re trying to do, we look forward to having you along. Café Calcio will be ably hosted, as usual, by Chris Dixon and equally ably co-presented, as usual, by Chris Roberts and David Stubbs. Listen live, tonight, 7pm BST on Resonance 104.4fm in Central London and on resonacefm.com/listen around the world. Ed Gillet is a South London based producer who has been recording electronic music under the name of Shape Worship for the last couple of years. It’s hard to describe Ed’s sound – whilst obviously starting from a dancefloor sensibility (especially from 2-step and early 90′s techno) his compositions drift outwards into a richly melodic space that is emotionally complex and gloriously expansive. This is a very warm music that has a similar wide-eyed atmosphere and temporal dislocation to those beautiful early Black Dog Production 12′s. We’re really thrilled to have Ed performing a live DJ set on the show tonight – I can’t tell you what to expect but that’s the beauty of live radio right? I’ll pick up the slack.
